Welcome

  • Ashley Bowen welcomed new POQC member Mari Smith, and Angie Green introduced herself as a MOQC member who will be taking the minutes.
  • Financial Navigation Video was shared- FINANCIAL NAVIGATION v3 with captions. Ashley thanked everyone that helped in the making of the video. If you see any needed edits, please contact Vanessa or Natalia. Updates are being made to the closed captioning.

 

Guest Presenters: (15 minutes)

  • MSHIELD – MI211 project
    • Introduced a current project to learn more about patient experiences with non-medical needs screening in Michigan. Please share with other patients that you know. Patients will be compensated for their time and focus groups will be set up in June.
    • This project is focused on non-medical needs screening that occur in oncology clinics. This will help to design the future of these screening programs with patients and caregivers in mind and hope to learn what makes the screening or does not make the screening a positive experience.
    • Contact michiganshield@umich.edu and/or michiganshield.org if you are interested in participating. There is no deadline for signing up. See flyer attached.

 

MOQC/POQC Updates (30 minutes)

  • Karmanos Cancer Institute at McLaren Greater Lansing – Survivor Celebration Day, Friday June 5, 3-6pm
    If anyone from POQC is interested in attending, MOQC with be there with a table of resources and information. See flyer attached.
  • National Cancer Survivors Day- June 7th, 12 - 3:30 pm, Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw Community College
    • In the process of seeing If anyone from MOQC can attend.
    • POQC role would be sharing things about POQC such as resources at our table, taking advantage of the event, exploring other activities, and sharing the work POQC and MOQC does.

  • Successful completion
    • Medical Oncology Regional Meetings
      • All MOQC medical oncology regional meetings are done and went well, Ashley thanked everyone for joining that were able, summaries of the meetings were sent to BCBS.
      • POQC members can join any regional meeting that they would like, whether in your region or not. Link shared https://moqc.org/moqc/members/ .
      • Regional meetings in the spring are a bit shorter and virtual, in the fall they are a little longer and are in person.

 

  • June 2026 biannual meeting
    • The June biannual meeting will take place at the Dearborn Inn in Dearborn, MI on Friday, June 26 from 10am-4pm.
    • There will be POQC breakfast prior to the meeting. Details will be shared in advance.
    • The draft agenda was shared, which included ten exhibitors to share resources during the lunch break.
    • Speaking Opportunity - We are looking for a patient or caregiver to share the voice of the patient/caregiver. This will be held prior to the keynote Faith and Culture panel. The speaker will have about 10 mins to share a story or experience related to faith and culture. Please let us know your interest by Friday, 5/22.
      • A POQC member shared that she hopes it shows the providers there what the work is about and what their collaboration is doing across the state.
      • Ashley shared that MOQC is there to support you during the process and go over logistics, the stage, and practice, so you are well prepared.
      • Speaking Opportunity - We are also seeking a POQC member to present the POQC update in the afternoon. MOQC will coordinate updates with POQC workgroups and the MOQC coordinating center to assist with this update. If interested, reach out to Ashley, Vanessa, or moqc@moqc.org. Please let us know your interest by Friday, 5/22.
      • POQC Data review – The next POQC meeting will be moved to 6/24 and will include biannual data review and the regular POQC meeting. The time will be extended from 5:30-7pm. An updated calendar invitation will be shared.
      • Hotel/travel costs - We want you to all attend if you are able! Hotel and travel costs are provided by MOQC. Flyer was shared regarding coverage/reimbursements (see attachment). If you need a hotel for this meeting, please contact moqc@moqc.org no later than June 1st and we will reserve the hotel room for you.
      • POQC group photo – a group photo will be taken at the biannual meeting. Timing will be shared in advance.

 

  • POQC Q1 2026 Payments – Q1 payments processed, any questions reach out to Karen at moqc@moqc.org.  

 

 

  • Michigan Cancer Consortium (MCC) – Speaking Opportunity
    • MCC is hosting an upcoming webinar on clinical trials.
    • If interested in sharing a story or experience with clinical trials during this webinar, please reach out to Vanessa.
