I received a recent question about whether or not Caris testing is considered genetic testing?
Answer: Caris testing (somatic) is generally done on the tumor tissue itself, so it is looking for mutations in the tumor vs Genetic (germline) testing that uses normal tissue, like blood, to look for mutations in the person. The company that most frequently does germline testing is Ambry. If a patient has genetic testing, they are often see by a genetic counselor too so you may see that documentation in Notes. The genetic counselor will also do a through family history review and a pedigree which you may find in the documentation too.
