Staging Guidance - Gyn Onc Charts

• For all gynecologic oncology diagnosis codes, you will be asked to enter the FIGO 2009 Stage Group.
• For uterine cancer diagnosis codes, you will be asked to enter both the FIGO 2009 and FIGO 2023 Stage Group. 
  • If FIGO staging year cannot be determined, enter the stage in the FIGO 2009 Stage Group
• AJCC 8th edition is equivalent to FIGO 2009
• Some EMRs might say FIGO 2014 Stage Group for non-uterine gynecologic oncology cases (OVA and GYN). If you find this, please record the stage in the FIGO 2009 Stage Group. Do not choose not documented. 
• FIGO staging information is commonly found in path reports, tumor board notes, and provider notes. The path report is considered the source of truth for staging information.
